Each week, several cats battle it out over the same song. I ask you to listen to the audio file below, which contains a themed music program and concludes with several versions of the same song by many different artists. Listen to both versions in their entirety before deciding which one you TRULY DIG THE MOST! Then vote below and see how your fellow Cat Fighters voted. That's the Friday Night Cat Fight from MattTheCat.com.
Memorial Day Weekend starts off right as we begin our first part on the “summer song” theme. Other than Christmas, no other part of the year is better represented in song than summertime. You’ll hear a great variety of artists and styles this week including Sam Cooke, The Danleers, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince and Roy Orbison.
Listen to the show and vote for your all-time favorite version of the Gershwin classic, “Summertime” and don’t miss part 2, coming next week.
Happy Memorial Day Weekend and don’t forget the charcoal!
Here is the third and final show dedicated to the theme of “train songs”. This week’s show features tunes by James Carr, Gladys Knight & The Pips and Leadbelly. It is also your chance to vote for your favorite version of the classic “Night Train.” So dig the show, vote and don’t miss that train, baby!
The Friday Night Cat Fight continues its focus on Train Songs this week, as we feature part 2 of our 3 part musical journey on “Trains”. Hop a freight with the Delmore Brothers or just dig with The Box Tops, Louis Jordan, Johnny Cash and many more.
This week, 2 hep cats battle it out over the classic Sun Records’ side, “Mystery Train”. Listen to the program and decide for yourself who is “king” of the “Mystery Train”.
The Friday Night Cat Fight focuses on one of the most popular song themes, TRAIN SONGS! This week’s show is only part one of a multi-part series on TRAIN SONGS and features great tunes from Johnny Cash, The Cardinals, Tom Waits, Rufus Thomas, Al Green and many more.
We also trace the history of the rock n’ roll classic, “The Train Kept A-Rollin’,” which was written by and originally recorded by Tiny Bradshaw in 1951. Tiny’s up against some of the greatest guitar solos in history as The Johnny Burnette Rock n’ Roll Trio (guitar: Paul Burlison), The Yardbirds (guitar: Jeff Beck) and Aerosmith (guitar: Joe Perry) all have a crack at it.
Listen to the show and then choose your favorite version below.
Rockabilly music is rock n’ roll in its purest form; the perfect fusion of rhythm & blues and country & western. This week’s show is a solid 45 minutes of classic Rockabilly Music featuring songs about girls’ names. You’ll hear about “Pearly Lee”, “Cindy Lou” and this week’s Cat Fight, “Bertha Lou” between Dorsey Burnette & Clint Miller. Dig on the show and then vote below.
It’s no surprise that Led Zeppelin found a lot of inspiration in American blues. This week’s Friday Night Cat Fight traces the history and evolution of one of Led Zep’s biggest hits, “Whole Lotta Love” back to its roots in Muddy Waters. Sure, Willie Dixon wrote the lyrics, but could Robert Plant have sung it the way he did without the vocal inspiration of Steve Marriott and The Small Faces? These three versions compete this week, so listen to the podcast and vote below on the one you DIG THE MOST! The show is rounded off with an instrumental from King Curtis, a funked up version by Tina Turner and even a doo wop rendition of this rock n’ roll milestone.
This year, the Annual Baseball Show makes its debut as a 2 hour podcast. I’ve been putting together a yearly baseball radio show since April of 1993 and the tradition continues.
Over this podcast you’ll hear the greatest baseball songs ever recorded highlighting the game’s top players and teams. My team vignettes include The Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, St. Louis Browns and more. The show also features some of the great historical baseball moments of the past 100 years.
Then, near the end of the program, I’ll ask you to vote for your favorite version of “Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball.” Dig the show and then vote below.
This week, we have our first FOUR-WAY Friday Night Cat Fight. All four versions of the classic “Open The Door, Richard” made it to #2 on Billboard’s R&B Chart in the first part of 1947. Listen to the Cat Fight Podcast and all four versions of this song in their entirety before you make your choice and vote below.
This week’s Friday Night Cat Fight takes us down to The Big Easy for a New Orleans themed Cat Fight Show. The battle royale this week is between two natives of New Orleans doing slightly different versions of the same song. We begin with “Jock-A-Mo” from Sugar Boy Crawford & His Cane Cutters from 1953. It’s up against The Dixie Cups classic top 20 hit from 1965, “Iko Iko”. Only you can decide who will take the Mardi Gras Friday Night Cat Fight. Grab a hurricane and dig, baby, dig. Where ya at?
This is a very exciting Friday Night Cat Fight this week as the Five Keys go for FIVE stright wins. If they win this week, they’ll be inducted into the MattTheCat.com Alley Of Fame. We’re going back to their original winning song from five week’s ago, “The Glory Of Love”. This week, they’ll battle The Velvetones and their 1957 version of the song. The choice is yours, Cats n’ Kittens. Will The Keys makes it into the Ally Of Fame OR will The Velvetones stop them dead in their tracks. Vote below and pass this on to all your friends on the web.
Which One Do You DIG The Most? - "The Glory Of Love" Pt. 2
The Friday Night Cat Fight began in 2002 on Matt The Cat's "Night Prowl Show" on XM Radio as a one-off, fun feature. The idea was to put the Crew-Cuts cover of "Sh-Boom" up against The Chords original version. The response was so overwhelming, that the Friday Night Cat Fight became a weekly feature on "The Night Prowl Show". When the program ended its run on XM in October of 2008, Matt The Cat decided it should continue on the web. The voting never closes on the web, so tell everyone you know to drop by and voice their choice for the version of the song that they truly DIG THE MOST!
