Draggin’ The Strip…
Drag Racing Songs

Rev up those engines and prepare to burn some rubber as we dedicate an entire Friday Night Cat Fight Podcast to songs about drag racin’. I’ve left out some of the ol’ standbys since you can still hear those all over the radio in favor of some of the lesser heard draggin’ tunes. Of course Jan & Dean and the Beach Boys will make an appearance, but we’ll also hear from Wally George, Leon Smith and The Hubcaps as well.
You’ll get a chance to vote for your favorite version of the ultimate drag racing song, “Hot Rod Lincoln”. So fire up those hopped up motors and get ready to burn your ears for that quarter mile on The Friday Night Cat Fight Show.

Write Me A Letter…
Songs About Letters
The Friday Night Cat Fight honors the summertime tradition of letter writing. Yes, before email, paging, texting and tweets, the only way to tell someone the feelings deep in your heart was to hand write them a letter. Even today, there is no more genuine way to communicate than letter writing.
This week’s crop of themed tunes focuses on the joys and heartbreaks around the receiving and sending of letters. Ruth Brown, Little Willie John, Buddy Holly and many more are featured on this week’s show.
Plus, vote for your favorite version of “Write Me A Letter”. The songs are different and so are the “feels” of each recording.
So here’s hoping that the mailman brings you no more blues.

“Whole Lotta Love”
The Evolution

It’s no surprise that Led Zeppelin found a lot of inspiration in American blues. This week’s Friday Night Cat Fight traces the history and evolution of one of Led Zep’s biggest hits, “Whole Lotta Love” back to its roots in Muddy Waters. Sure, Willie Dixon wrote the lyrics, but could Robert Plant have sung it the way he did without the vocal inspiration of Steve Marriott and The Small Faces? These three versions compete this week, so listen to the podcast and vote below on the one you DIG THE MOST! The show is rounded off with an instrumental from King Curtis, a funked up version by Tina Turner and even a doo wop rendition of this rock n’ roll milestone.

The
Annual
Baseball Show

This year, the Annual Baseball Show makes its debut as a 2 hour podcast. I’ve been putting together a yearly baseball radio show since April of 1993 and the tradition continues.
Over this podcast you’ll hear the greatest baseball songs ever recorded highlighting the game’s top players and teams. My team vignettes include The Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, St. Louis Browns and more. The show also features some of the great historical baseball moments of the past 100 years.
Then, near the end of the program, I’ll ask you to vote for your favorite version of “Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball.” Dig the show and then vote below.
May your team go all the way this year!
Play Ball!

Donnie Owens vs. Johnny Jack

This week’s Friday Night Cat Fight is a battle between 2 very capable ballad singers, Donnie Owens and Johnny Jack. Donnie cut the song in mid 1958 and it hit #25 on the pop charts. In 1962, Johnny Jack recorded a version of the same song and it was a big hit in the Pittsburgh area, but not nationally. Listen to both versions of the song, which are found near the end of the Cat Fight Podcast and decide which version you like better. Voice your choice by voting below.
