Welcome to part one of my three part Halloween series of themed podcasts. We begin this very popular theme with songs about creatures and monsters. You’ll hear frightful favorites from The Jayhawks, Dave Edmunds, John Zacherle and Bo Diddley. Plus, a never before heard interview that I did with the now late great Bobby “Boris” Pickett. I was only 15 years old when I got the chance to interview him and he was a true gentleman.

As much as I loved Boris’ version as a kid, and have such fond memories of listening to it on our Seeburg 100 Select-O-Matic jukebox, I enjoyed the Bonzo Dog Band’s version better now, as an adult. It’s just sexier.
Great Halloween show; had to vote for Pickett. The other one just seemed to comical and too fast. Also Pickett did the monster imitations better. Hey Brando, give us an offer we can’t refuse.
A really nice interview. It was like you two were old friends. And him giving it to you, a kid, that’s class.
I had to vote “Boris”. I had a chance to correspond with him via email around 2000 or so. He was kind enough to answer some questions for me. Very cool of him.
There’s also a parody of Monster Mash called Monster Hash by the Toyes.
This one has to be for Bobby “Boris” Pickett.
Know one does it better
This could very well be the most lopsided victory for an artist in “Cat Fight on the Web” history. Bobby Boris has this one hands down; no contest. Bonzo had better bring the dogs in from out in the cold, cruel world of a “Cat Fight” slaughter.
I did vote for Boris but I really liked Bonzo’s version too. I never heard it before. Great interview ‘kid’!

that was a great start to the Halloween season. I really enjoyed the rare songs about monsters, and creatures. Especially the cut in record, and the tune by John Zacherley.
The clips from old monster movies were cool too.
That was a neat interview you did with Bobby Boris Picket. You sounded like you’d been doing them for years. I never realized that he’d been in so many TV shows, and Movies.
As far as the Cat Fight goes, I had to give it to Bobby. Bonzo and his dog band should have stayed on the porch, They sure can’t run with the big dogs. That version was SOOO LAME. The proof is in the voting. I don’t recall a bigger stomping in the history of these podcasts.
Keep on prowlin, and can’t wait for next week’s spooktacular. You’re the best.
That was a great show and a fun early-Matt interview with Bobby “Boris” Pickett. But that wasn’t a Cat Fight, it was a Mauling! Call out the keepers to shovel what’s left of Bonzo off the pavement. Ohhhhh, Baby!!!
Any record that got dissed by every major record company (see Wikipedia) AND Elvis Presley and still went on to be one of the all-time top novelty song charters and sellers has something going for it.
One trivia tidbit I didn’t hear on this week’s show about Bobby “Boris” Pickett’s recording: the piano player? Leon Russell, 20 years old. Listen again: Leon’s piano line is pretty quiet in the mix, but without it, the recording wouldn’t work nearly as well.
