My fave was Surfer’s Stomp by the Marketts. Groovy beats, man. Another great show, MTC!

    Hi MTC,
You sound great as always, I sure miss you! Dick Dale used to get he hair cut at a barber shop in HB, “Surf City” CA next to the salon where I worked and he would bring his “mountain lion” with him. His stylist worked behind a wall and the lion would lay down behind that wall and peer out at anyone that walked by ~ everyone would freak out! Of course we always got a good laugh! Surfers were always such fun!
Love you and miss you Matt!

    Matt,
How could you leave out Santo & Johnny’s sleep walk? I guess we all have our favorites…to me they are sun and surf. We are heading to Wildwood NJ for VACA. We will playing a lot of you podcast by the campfire.

    Matt,
Tonights show was really too much! No, I mean it, 10 songs is just too much! I had to go back and listen to a few over again, but finally made up my mind and picked the Ventures-Walk don’t run.
Good show as alyays. Looking forward to next week. Miss you Buddy.

You did not give us a chance to vote for Apache. It may not have the hard driving guitar of other surf tunes, but it does have the calm and serenity one only finds when surfing a rolling swell.

Always a big fan of instrumental music, the surf music was some of the best RR instrumentals. I voted for Pipeline because I like the mellower sound. It was good to hear Surfer Stomp and Lonely Surfer. What a terrific song and I had forgotten all about it. Thanks for the early 60’s So. Cal memories.

Great show as always, Matt. I love these old surf songs, both vocal AND instrumental. It was a tough choice between “Walk Don’t Run” and “Mr. Moto” for me, though. The Ventures eventually won out, though. Keep up the great work!

For me, if you’re talking surf instrumental, it’s gotta be Dick Dale, and it’s gotta be Miserlou. With the votes spread out over so many tunes, It’ll be tough to call a winner decisively. It’s all good though. Have a great 4th everyone!

I finally decided on Wipe-out even if I do live in Tacoma, it was however a close call between it and Walk Don’t Run. I don’t know how Matt does it but every week seems to get better and better.

I voted for Walk Don’t Run, but a strong modern-day surf contender might be Tailspin by Los Straitjackets, keeping the surf vibe alive: http://blip.fm/~9lgt1

I might also suggest “Pabst Blue Ribbon” by Untamed Youth. Features Deke Dickerson who is a whiz on guitar. If anyone heard American Routes on NPR over the weekend heard Deke backing alot of the acts at Ponderosa Stomp.

    Hey Matt,
As usual, prove once again you are still the best!! — SIRIUS blew it when they paid millions for the likes of Howard Stern & other “do nothings” that think smut is entertainment .. I called last week to cancel. After they put you out I emailed and told them if they screwed up the 50’s country on XM 13 as bad as they did 50’s on 5 I would bail. Well they did!! Guy told me that had a lot of XM listener complaints!! Imagine!! Told me they were bringing back a lot of the old programming and gave me 3 months free to see if I liked it. Tomorrow they get a new email that will say “No Matt, no keep!” I’ll take the 3 -free and tell them to switch it off!! But You? Well I can’t switch you off cuz you’re always spinning Night Prowl and the Cat Fight in my head!! Thanks for the GR8 years Matt!!

We email chatted a bit shortly after you left XM and I found your website!! I then took time to read you whole Bio!! Damn you know a lot of 50’s music history for a kid my Grandma would have said was still “wet behind the ears!! — Wet maybe, but a lot of information between those ears!! — LOL

    Keep Prowl’in Matt!!
You’re the best!! — Right up there in the class with The Wolfman!

    Take care Buddy!
    Joe

Another great pair of shows, Matt. Three very cool instrumentals that were new to me this week (Baja, The Surfer Stomp, and Boss) as well as lots of old favorites, but my very favorite surf rock cut remains Misirlou in a close one over Walk Don’t Run. For me, Misirlou just best captures the feeling of surfing… er, well, watching surfing from the beach or on TV, anyway, never having tried it on a board. I think if I’d tried it on a board, the song that best would have captured it would go something like: “Oh, crap! Oh, ouch! Oh, #$%@#$!!! Give me a freakin’ chance, here!!!”

    Yo Furry Leader
Sorry I’m a bit late on this one, bur I was out of town all week.
The surf instrumentals were fantastic. I love instrumentals, and they are almost an extinct species today. I had to put in a write in vote this week. My favorite surf instrumental isn’t in the list. I decicded to vote for. The Lonely Surfer, by Jack Nitzche. It’s a great tune, and is mellow. All the choices were good, but this is probably my all time favorite surf tune.
    Keep the great shows comin.
