“Oh, Babe!”
This week’s Friday Night Cat Fight Podcast features a song that was a flicker in time. Back in late, 1950, no less than 6 artists charted with versions of the Louis Prima penned song, “Oh, Babe!.” Many of them charted on the rhythm and blues side of things, but Kay Starr and Prima himself had hits with the tune on the pop lists. Since 1950 and 1951, this song has faded from the public’s musical consciousness, but now it returns thanks to the Friday Night Cat Fight Podcast with Matt The Cat.

Loved Wynonie’s version the best. I think it’s the great sound of the horn section at the end that makes it for me. Great Cat Fight, Matt the Cat!
Tossed Wynonie’s version around with Louis Prima’s but finally went with Prima and Smith.
Welcome back Cat
Louis Prima and Milton Kabak wrote such a wonderful tune, and Louis and Keely did such a good job performing it everybody who was anybody copied them. They certainly get my vote. Thank you once again Matt, WOW, you work a full time job now and still have time for your fans.
Louie Louie Prima & Cross Country Keely !!
Like Virginia, I was struck by how all five of these artists covering this song stuck with the basic original groove/arrangement, which tells me how good that one was. And for me, none of them definitively topped the original one in quality of performance, though Jimmy Preston & Burnetta Evans came closest. So I voted for lucky Louis, krazy Keely, and smokin’ hot Sam Butera on the wailin’ alto sax!
Cat fight, Wind / Jesters or Flamingos
Frank like everything about your show.Just love the early R&B sounds
