THE
ELVIS
TRIPLE
THREAT
The dog days and cat nights of August are ON FIRE with this week’s Friday Night Cat Fight Battle Royale, THE ELVIS TRIPLE THREAT! Matt The Cat commemorates the 33rd anniversary of Elvis’ death with not one, not two BUT THREE Cat Fight’s rolled into one. In round one, the “King” returns from his stint in the Army only to battle Lowell Fulson over “Reconsider Baby.” Then, round two heats up with Elvis’ top 10 rendition of Ray Peterson’s classic “The Wonder Of You.” Finally, the crowd can’t sit still as the Big “E” takes it to the streets to battle the gang from Washington, DC better known as The Clovers way “Down In The Alley!”
Vote three times in this week’s historic Cat Fight. Can Elvis win 2 out of 3 and take the title OR will he be defeated and sent back to the minors. The answer is in your hands.

Since I was late to the party to comment on last week’s show (yesterday), I figured I might as well make an effort and get in early today.
Doggone it, Matt! I keep saying I’m not an Elvis fan, yet I’ve voted for him more often not in 2010… something like 5 out of 6 chances. I liked the sweet harmony of the Clovers better, though Elvis wasn’t bad either, but I preferred Elvis’ grooves on the first two.
Have a great rest of the summer, and we’ll catch ya on the flip side!
Elvis! His sound is just so rich. Thanks Matt and have a well deserved vacation!
While I realize it is almost sacrilegious for someone of my generation not to vote for Elvis in this case I voted for the original versions in all three cases. I do love much of his music but these were not my cup of tea. Have a great vacation Matt and as always thank you for sharing with us.
I’m a big Elvis fan so it’s Elvis all the way!!!!!
Thanks for all you do for us your fans. I hope you and Kelly have a great vacation.
Elvis Ray Elvis !! Yum Yum
Elvis got my vote on “Reconsider Baby” one, what a recording. A stunning vocal performance out done by the backing band. Who was that sax player Matt it’s a great solo and really makes the record.
On both the “Wonder of You” and “Down in the Alley” I had to go with the originals. While his versions are by no means terrible they just don’t do anything to improve on the originals.
Have a great summer Matt, don’t forget to stay out of the heat and put on the sunscreen.
I agree with Yum Yum; Elvis, Ray, Elvis. I was really surprised that the king outdid Ray Peterson, as I think Ray’s was the better version here. Have a great vacation; we’ll miss our furry leader for that long, but stay safe and get back to us when you can. Thanks for everything
I canceled Sierra’s vote – NOT Elvis, Elvis, NOT Elvis.
Sierra Neveda i put you back with the vote Yes Elvis Yes Elvis and No to Ken !! Ken everyone has their own taste !! Yum Yum
Yum, don’t make my comment into something it’s not. It was simply a comment on the vote and not on anybody’s taste in music. I like Elvis and you’ll notice I did vote for one of his songs, just liked the other versions better (my taste).
Ken thanks for the update ! It’s always good to hear what people have to say on this comment page it makes it all worth while !! So Ken keep on having Good Taste and ill keep on having mine and the world will go on !! Yum Yum
Three tough calls this time instead of just one! I went with Elvis, Ray, Clovers. Oddly, my favorite of the non-Elvis tracks was the one by Lowell Fulson, with its awesome guitar part, but I loved the sax and guitar parts on the Elvis version as well. Great stuff as always, Matt.
When Elvis goes up against just an individual singer he wins but even Elvis can’t beat a great doowop group like the Clovers.
Matt and I traded emails a few weeks ago about cover music. Techically, Elvis did a lot of cover music but I never considered him a “cover” artist.
these were tough to choose! each version has it’s own merits. Elvis has a rich voice and some great arrangers and backup musicians…hard to beat that..had to go with Lowell on the first one, but Elvis on the rest…wish you were back on sirius/xm! they screwed up when they replaced you and Ken Smith….50’s on 5 don’t appear on my playlist anymore!!
The first two are hands down Elvis. The third one I had to listen twice, but I think Elvis is a triple winner.
