Back To School Songs
Well, summer’s gone and no songbirds are singing…time to get BACK TO SCHOOL! This week all the songs featured in the podcast relate to either going back to school or STAYING in school, because baby you know it’s cool to stay in school!
You’ll hear some classic tunes from Timmie “Oh Yeah” Rogers, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, James Brown and a lot more.
School just wouldn’t be school without a little “Hanky Panky” and so this week’s Friday Night Cat Fight will put The Raindrops original version of the song up against Tommy James & The Shondells chart-topper. Also this week, we honor the passing of songwriter Ellie Greenwich and doo wop tenor man Johnny Carter.
So listen, vote and STAY IN SCHOOL!

As much as it pains me to say, I voted for Tommy James. He just rocked more and sounded like he was having a better time.
I’m sorry it pains you CCK but I also voted for Tommy James I didn’t think there was a contest. Great show again Matt Thank You
I agree, this one goes to TJ. Sometimes the writers version isn’t the definative one, and such is the case here.
One can’t help but wonder how the Shondell’s version would sound if they had the actual Snap master tape to work with (everything has been mastered off a Snap 45 since the original release).
Nice job as always Matt!
Sure didn’t know TJ had a version of this song in 1963. So sorry to hear about Ellie’s death, but I agree that although she wrote the song, TJ rocked it better and displayed a lot more feeling. Great show, and so glad to hear something other than R&B for a change. Thanks.
Yo Furry leader
what a great back to school show that was. You really dug deep to find some of those tunes. I really enjoyed it, when you played the Geator with the heater, also known as, the boss with the hot sauce. I also enjoyed the original high school U S A. It is sure different than the other versions.
As far as the cat fight goes, I had to go with the Raindrops. I usually like original versions anyway, but I’m burned out on Tommy James’ version. It’s one of those songs we call, good times and 8 oldies.
I love the night prowl cat fights. please keep em comin, and, as far as supporting the cat fights, and matt the cat, You’re welcome. it’s worth every penny.
KEEP ON PROWLIN
I never liked the song Hanky Panky as well as Mony Mony !! But Matt i always liked you !! Yum Yum
