Cadillac Songs
This week, I’m adding luxury, class and style to the typical car-themed show by dedicated the entire program to songs about Cadillacs. No other car in American Popular Culture has been more sought after and no other car let’s everyone else around you know that you’ve made it to the “big time”. You left town in your daddy’s old Ford, but you return in a brand new Cadillac.
You’re gonna hear songs from Bo Diddley, The Ravens, Larry Dowd, Bruce Springsteen and Dizzy Gillespie just to show the variety of styles features on this week’s podcast.
Then, vote for your favorite version of the classic, “Brand New Cadillac” as The Clash take on Vince Taylor.
So get into your Caddy and go…on with the show!

Like ’em both, but went with Vince Taylor. The Brian Setzer Orchestra did a cover of this song based on the version by The Clash, which is also a good one. Setzer’s had the “Peter Gunn” theme in the middle of the song, similar to how the Orchestra put the “Pink Panther” theme in the middle of “Stray Cat Strut”.
Vince for me also, this is very close to the top if not my favorite ever FNCF as we have been invloved with vintage and new Cadillac’s since the mid 70’s. Loved it !
Thanx for all the caddy songs…..Got me inspired to get my ’36 LaSalle up and running….she’ll be a midnight blue beauty..just been sitting patiently outside waiting for my inspiration…couldn’t really relate to either song on the FNCF but went for the original ’cause the 50s ROCK!!!! Thanx again for a great show, Matt!!!
The Vince Taylor & the Playboys original nails it for me, especially the lead guitar hooks at end of each bar and ending. Actually saw The Clash play it live in Perth, Australia…years ago. I’ve covered it in several bands I’ve played bass with. N.B. I once played with a Texas Blues outfit called “Geronimos Cadillac. Mate of mine has an Electrical contracting firm in Qld. “Cadillac Electrical Services” & an huge collection of classic Caddys. Keep up the good stuff!
