RARE
DOO WOP
This week’s Friday Night Cat Fight returns to the bread and butter that made my XM programs so successful; Doo wop. I’m featuring an hour of “ultra” rare doo wop records. How rare, you ask? Well, these records are SO RARE that none of them were EVER played on my old radio programs. I intentionally stayed away from the ol’ Night Prowl Show favorites. So if you were a big fan of the old show, you’ll be hearing a lot of “new” stuff on this week’s Cat Fight.
You’ll hear The Flamingos, The Five Dollars, The Romancers and an unreleased gem from The Moonglows from their days at Chance Records.
Whether you call this music doo wop or vocal group harmony, you’re sure to dig this extra heapin’ helpin’ of smooth harmony sounds. You will also get to vote on the doo wop classic, “White Cliffs Of Dover.” I’m presenting 2 versions that never got airplay on the old show. So sit back, relax and pretend like it was 2006 and all is well with the world.

Oh I LOVED the Blue Jays’ version. So beautiful. What a great show, MTC!
Loved this show–great doowopp! Really appreciate the work you put in to make these shows happen!
I liked The Robbins Version; The Bluejays kinda reminded me of squeaking chalk on a chalkboard! Marc
Great show, as always. Loved hearing the Moonglows!

Have to agree with Kelly and Mark; loved the Robins’ version, but the whole show was great, and so glad to hear the Doowopp Thursday segment from back in the day. Thanks to Judy for that, and to MTC, still our furry leader, for the dedication in faithfully returning every week.
Guess Kelly liked the other one better; sorry. They were both great. Can’t wait for the surfin’ songs too.
The Robins for me, what a fun show all these new (to me) songs. And also my thanks to Judy for the Doo Wop Thursday show.
Probably The Best Show Ever Done By Matt The Cat…All True R&B
Very cool show tonight. I gave the nod to The Robins for their unique treatment.
love both tough call hate to disagree with mrs cat but i will go with robins
My mom’s name is Shirley, I never knew there was a song!! But I should have known Matt The cat could find one..lol. Danny
When you get a celeb like Billy Storybook Children Vera to post a comment Matt you must be doing something right! This was as good as one of the best Night Prowl shows with songs that were never played a real novel idea ! Im looking over the White Cliffs Of Dover and i see you and Kelly on that branch over looking the Pacific Ocean on My Summer Love !! Yum Yum
Hi Matt,
just wanted to say loved the show hope this will be more. maybe you could play the clickettes theyare still singing and sounding great.
take care
Matt,
This is by far one of my favorite shows. I would listen to Alen Lee’s forgoton 45’s every Sunday night here in Baltimore on WQSR. You have captured what is missing on the airwaves and hope to hear you every night again sometime soon.
LOVED THE SHOW KEEP PLAYING THOSE DOO_WOPPS AND KEEPING THE SOUND ALIVE THANKS
Yo Furry leader
I gotta tell ya, that rare doo wop show was one of, if not, the best cat fight shows you’ve ever done. It was fantastic to hear those rare tunes. For me, the rarer, the better. Who needs good times and 8 oldies.
As far as the cat fight, which turned into the battle of the birds, I had to go with the Bluejays, despite the fact that the sax sounded like it needed a new reed. I personally think that that song should be a slow song, not an up tempo. tune.
Thanks for the wonderful show, say hi to Kelly, and we’ll be looking forward to the next cat fight show in two weeks. have a great time prowlin.
You’re the best.
