Ahmet Ertegun - R.I.P.

Ahmet Ertegun
July 31, 1923 - December 14, 2006

In 1947, Ahmet Ertegun and his partner Herb Abramson raised $10,000 and started Atlantic Records to showcase music that was generally being ignored by the majors; R&B and Jazz. Atlantic would contribute greatly to the rise of Rock n' Roll by signing and popularizing artists such as Ray Charles, Big Joe Turner, LaVern Baker, Ruth Brown, Chuck Willis, The Coasters, The Drifters and The Clovers.

Matt The Cat will air an interview he did with this true Rock n' Roll pioneer as well as play the records that made Atlantic Records the most import record label in history. Hear Ahmet's demo of the song, "Mess Around", which he recorded in order to get Ray Charles to record it and many more rarities, Friday Night at 7pm EST - 4pm PST on XM's 50s on 5.
